Review: Yamla Pagla Deewana

Verdict: Timepass Comedy
"K" Rating: 2.5
Watch: DVD/Theater

This is an out-n-out mass entertainer doeled out by the Deols! The Trio is back after the emotional drama of Apne, in a comedy flick.  Director Samir Karnik allows each of the Deols to play up their image and spoof it aswell. However one has to wait till the second half of the film for the spontaneous laugh out moments. Its only when we reach Punjab or shall I say Fun-jab that the fun begins.

YPD has spoofed all the stereotypical things Punjab is known for.Although Samir Karnik seems to have gone overboard with Sunny's character in the fight scenes, as they defy laws of physcis. It is fascinating to see Dharmendra perform and dance at this age, Bobby Deol is good but show stealer is Sunny Deol. On the whole the trio looks good onscreen. Anupam Kher is outstanding as he plays the stereotyped sardar.Kulraj Randhawa has little scope but looks stunning.

The title track "Yamla Pagla Deewana" , "Chada de Rang" (Rahat Ali version), "Sau Baar" are songs which leave a mark. Choreography of  "Sau Baar" could have been better, as the dancing does not match the music. The two item numbers are completely unnecessary and seem to be put in place to cater to the whistling audience in the interiors.

YPD will do excellent business in the single screen theaters of North. The budget of the movie is not big, and hence it will be paisa-vasol for the Deols!

The Deols are back together in a comedy flick after Apne. Sunny Deol plays an NRI returning to Punjab, who is welcomed by two con men played by Dharmendra and Bobby Deol. The title is inspired by a song from the 1975 Dharmendra film Pratiggya. Music is Punjabi-Hiphop-ish, foot tapping – thanks to the 6 music directors who have composed for YPD.
