Review: Veer

Verdict: eh, ok

"K" Rating: 1.5 / 5

Watch: DVD

Salmaan Khan is the only reason one should see this film as he is looking fit, fabulous and ferocious! Veer is set in British India, where  the brave warrior tribesman "Pindaris" have been duped out of their land by an evil king and the British. Its a love story of a warrior born to avenge the king.

The cinematography is excellent however cannot make up for the weak storyline. The movie wavers between soft, romantic scenes to violence far too quickly.  Debutant Zarine Khan has little scope in the film apart from smiling or crying in the scenes, also one cannot overlook her striking resemblance to Katrina Kaif. Jackie Shroff as the evil king,  Mithun Chakarborty as the powerful sardar of the Pindaris, Sohail Khan as the comedian suit very well. The director should have stuck to making a gladiator like out an out action movie or a romantic epic, mixing the two has not done well for the film.

Music of Veer is a definate buy as most all the songs have a distinct feel and sound to them. "Surili Ankhiyon wale" and "Saalam Aaya" are already hit.

They met at a social gathering 7 years ago in Mumbai and have been inseparable ever since. Avantika is the daughter of TV18's head Vandana Mallik (The channel which bought rights to Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na). Mallik's farmhouse in Karjat was abuzz with the activities of the engagement ceremony. It was attended my Imran's biological father Anil Pal, Mansoor Khan, mamu Aamir with his current wife Kiran Rao and ex-wife Reena among family.Who's who of Bollywood included Karan Johar, Abhay Deol,Kunal Kapoor, Purab Kohli and Kunal Kohli - the couple wanted it to be a private affair of just few friends and family. Imran looked handsome in a black sherwani designed by none other than director turned fashion designer Karan Johar while Avantika opted for a blue Varun Bahl off-shoulder dress. With love in the air and red being the color of love, Imran gifted his fiance with a red Volkswagen Beetle - before its official launch in India. What's more their license plate numbers match with a combination of their birthdays. Review: Chance Pe Dance

Verdict: Timepass
"K" Rating: 2.5 / 5
Watch: DVD

Chance Pe Dance has Shahid playing the underdog who wants to make it big in Bollywood as a dancing star. Shahid looks fantastic in the movie and lets not forget he is a good no Great dancer. This movie is must if you are a Shahid fan.Intune with the title the movie is about making best with whatever opportunities one is presented with, about the "never say die" attitude even if the opportunities vanish midway. GeneliaD'souza looks fresh but rather too peppy/perky in her role.Shahid Kapoor- Genelia D'souza have good chemistry and the pairing is a breath of air.

Unfortunately the story lacks substance and plausibilitythereby the audience fails to connect with the protagonist. One is usually aware of the ending in most underdog movies, however its the journey
which is supposed to be captivating- remember Lakshya/Luck by Chance or Step Up? this is where Chance pe Dance fails to do Chance pe dance and turns out to be a lukewarm/timepass experience with few light moments sprinkled across. Thanks to ad-man Ken Ghosh, director of CPD, the Dance sequences are embellished with impressive choreography howbeit they look MTVish.

Two songs which are worth a special mention are "Pe pe Pepin" and "Pump it Up" both are upbeat, fun and are bound to give an adrenaline rush. They do justice to the line "Back Straight,Attitude. Feel the Music".

Red Carpet Highlights: Star Screen Awards 2010

All the glitz, gloss and glamour was seen on the first award ceremony of the year at the Star Screen Awards 2010. The show was hosted by none other than the King khan himself along with Shahid Kapoor (what a treat for the eyes!). Paa/3-Idiots chimed in most of the awards for the night, the cast gleemed in pride and joy. One of the hightlights was the "Auro" dance from the movie which was performed together by SRK,Amitabh Bachchan,Abhishek Bachchan and Shahid. Also, it is quit unbelievable how junior Bachchan gets away with some very licentious remarks (check out what he had to say on the Red Carpet). We still await the Tv telecast of the event for videos!

3 idiots: Definitions of Book & Machine

Here is the non-simple definition of Books as told by Aamir Khan aka Rancho in 3-idiots:

"Instruments that record analyse summarize organize debate and explain information which are illustrative non-llustrative hardbound paperback jacketed non-jacketed with forward introduction, table of contents, index that are indented for the englightnment, understanding enrichment enhancement and education of the human brain thru sensory root of vision... sometimes touch"

How can we forget Chatur/Silencer's defination of Machine:

"Sir, machines are any combination of bodies so connected that thier relative motions are constraint. And by which means force and motion maybe transmitted and modified as the screw in its nut or a lever range turnabout a fulcrum or a pulley by its pivot etc. esp a construction more or less complex consisting of a combination of moving parts or simple mechanical elements as wheels, levers, cams etc"

"wah kya baat hai"
